United Nations: Hundreds of thousands of displaced people urgently need help after fleeing from El Fasher following the Rapid Support Forces' control of it
SadaNews - The United Nations confirmed that hundreds of thousands of displaced people urgently need help after fleeing from El Fasher following the Rapid Support Forces' control of it, and called for additional resources to help support the displaced.
The United Nations stated that more than 650,000 displaced people are in the city of Talodi after fleeing from El Fasher and surrounding areas, and they are in urgent need of immediate and swift assistance.
The organization emphasized that it needs more resources so that frontline workers can assist the displaced in Sudan quickly and effectively.
The humanitarian suffering in Sudan is exacerbated by the ongoing bloody war between the army and the Rapid Support Forces since April 2023, which has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands and the displacement of around 13 million people.
Field Developments
On the ground, the Sudanese army announced that it has made significant progress on all fronts in Kordofan. The army stated in a statement that it inflicted heavy losses in lives and equipment on the Rapid Support Forces and secured vital sites, and redeployed according to pre-prepared plans.
This announcement follows a statement from a Sudanese military source to Al Jazeera, indicating that the army destroyed Rapid Support Forces near the cities of Al-Obeid and Bara in North Kordofan (central Sudan).
For its part, the Sudan Shield Forces allied with the army confirmed that their troops have regained full control over the regions of Abu Kaud and Jebel Abu Sunun in the northern Kordofan axis.
In contrast, the Rapid Support Forces announced achieving progress in the regions of Jebel Abu Sunun, Jebel Issa, and Al-Ayyara west of the city of Al-Obeid, the capital of the state.
The Rapid Support Forces spoke - in a statement via the Telegram app - about achieving "victories" over the army and its supporting forces in this axis, killing 290 of its elements, destroying 40 combat vehicles, and seizing 70 other vehicles.
After recently taking control of the city of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur (western Sudan), the Rapid Support Forces have focused their operations in the Kordofan region, as they attacked the city of Babanusa in the west of the region in an attempt to seize control of the headquarters of the 22nd Division of the Sudanese army.
These forces spoke of their proximity to capturing Babanusa, but the Sudanese army repelled several attacks on the city, while battles are ongoing in other axes in South, West, and North Kordofan, leading to the displacement of around 50,000 people.
The army controls South Kordofan and major cities in North Kordofan such as Al-Obeid, and others in the west of the region such as Babanusa, while the Rapid Support Forces control cities in North Kordofan such as Bara, Al-Nahud in the west, and Al-Debibat in the south.
