UNHCR on Sudan Crisis: 12 Million People Displaced from Their Homes
SadaNews - The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has reported that the crisis in Sudan is the largest displacement situation in the world, with 12 million people displaced from their homes.
It was explained that thousands of families continue to flee from El Fasher and Darfur.
Jens Laerke, spokesperson for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), stated that millions of Sudanese are in desperate need of assistance, and that civilians and aid workers are being killed with impunity, with sexual violence on the rise.
He called for确保 safe access to aid and the protection and support of local organizations.
Meanwhile, Sean Hughes, emergency coordinator at the World Food Programme for the Sudan crisis, described the grim situation in Sudan as the largest humanitarian crisis in the world by all measures, with about 25 million people - or half the population - facing severe hunger, and nearly five million children and mothers suffering from acute malnutrition.
