Ben Gvir Comments on the Decision Regarding the "Borders with Egypt"
SadaNews - Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir commented on Thursday regarding the decision by the occupation's Minister of Defense, Israel Katz, to declare the borders with Egypt a closed military zone.
Ben Gvir stated: "I congratulate Minister of Defense Israel Katz on the important decision to declare the borders with Egypt a closed military zone - stemming from the belief that the smuggling operations taking place there are used for terrorist purposes."
He added: "Minister Katz embodies a firm security vision, moving away from traditional concepts and adopting a realistic and healthy view of the situation. Well done."
Katz ordered the Israeli military to declare the area adjacent to the Israeli-Egyptian border a restricted military zone, and to modify the rules of engagement accordingly, stating: "Anyone who enters this prohibited area will be attacked."
Katz informed senior security officials that he had agreed with the head of the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency), David Zini, to consider weapon smuggling via drones as a terrorist threat.
He said: "Just as we have strengthened deterrence with Hezbollah in Lebanon regarding drones and attacks on population centers, we must also strengthen deterrence here and clarify to those involved in smuggling that the rules of the game are changing. They will pay a heavy price if they do not stop."
