Burhan: The Sudanese Army is Determined to "Defeat the Rebel Militia"
SadaNews - Sudan’s Sovereignty Council President Abdel Fattah Burhan emphasized on Thursday the Sudanese army's determination to secure all of Sudan's borders, even its farthest points, during a speech at a meeting with the mobile leadership.
He stated that the Sudanese army is determined to "defeat the rebel militia," referring to the Rapid Support Forces, affirming that those who fight in the name of the people will not be defeated, as he described.
He added that what he termed the "campaign led by the countries of aggression and arrogance" against Sudan and its army "will break, and the people will triumph," continuing, "We are moving towards a near and imminent victory," according to his statement.
Last week, the Rapid Support Forces seized the city of El Fasher, which was the last stronghold of the Sudanese army in the Darfur region, and reports spoke of massacres committed by the Rapid Support Forces against civilians, leading to the displacement of thousands of families to safer areas in northern and western Darfur.
The Largest Humanitarian Crisis
In a related context, Amnesty International stated that what is happening in Sudan now is so horrific that it is hard to put into words, pointing out that "Sudan is the largest humanitarian crisis the world is experiencing today."
It noted that tens of thousands of civilians have been killed in Sudan, and more than 12 million people have been forced to flee, with over 14 million Sudanese children needing humanitarian assistance just to survive.
It stressed that the Rapid Support Forces are carrying out house-to-house killings and other brutal attacks.
Since April 2023, Sudan has witnessed a bloody war between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, resulting in tens of thousands of deaths and the displacement of around 13 million people.
Out of 18 states across the country, the Rapid Support Forces currently control all five states of the Darfur region to the west, except for some northern parts of North Darfur, which remain in the army’s grip, which controls most areas of the remaining 13 states in the south, north, east, and central regions, including the capital Khartoum.
