"New York's Fall".. Mamdani's Victory Sparks Widespread Anger in Israeli Circles
SadaNews - The victory of Zahran Mamdani for the position of Mayor of New York City has triggered a storm of anger and controversy in Israeli circles, where many consider it a "black day" in the city's history, with some going so far as to describe it as the "fall of New York".
This win, which Mamdani's supporters celebrated as a historic achievement as he is the first Muslim to hold this position, was met with angry reactions from Israeli figures and Twitter users, who labeled him as "extremist" and "supporter of terrorism," warning that his election represents an "internal invasion" of the West with dire consequences.
Conversely, anti-Zionist Jewish entities welcomed Mamdani's victory, viewing it as a step towards social justice and pluralism, reflecting the deep divide in attitudes towards this unprecedented event in the city's history.
They wrote: "New York has fallen! It is a black day in the history of the city, the United States, and the free world. A dangerous and extreme individual who supports terrorism will lead one of the largest and most important cities in the West. This symbolizes a bad direction that America is heading towards, as the invasion of the West from within is increasing, and the consequences of this will affect the world in the most painful ways in the future. It is a sad day. We warned… and soon everyone will realize what we meant."
Others wrote: "The people of New York decided tonight to mock themselves. It will be interesting to see in which direction this move will take them."
Some Israeli commentators believe that New York, which is a symbol of the American dream, may gradually fade away, and perhaps the entire American dream may collapse with it. After being a safe haven for Jews for 150 years, and home to the largest Jewish community in the world, the city may witness gradual disintegration, pushing Jews to migrate to their "next stop," saying: "Perhaps this time to the right place."
Others questioned the possibility of a wave of Jewish immigration following Mamdani's election, to which some replied that Jews in most Western countries rarely move to Israel due to difficult conditions, noting that the only recent occurrence was in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, the "Jewish Voice" organization - which describes itself as "Jews United Against Zionism and the State of Israel" - expressed its welcome for Mamdani's victory, issuing a congratulatory statement that read: "Warmest congratulations and best wishes to the elected Mayor of New York City, Zahran Mamdani. We are proud to support you and look forward to your leadership, vision, and collaboration to improve our community and all New Yorkers."
