Occupation Announces Plan to Build Two Buildings on the Site of the Old Vegetable Market in Hebron

SadaNews - The Hebron municipality confirmed today, Monday, that the Israeli occupation authorities announced through the planning and building committee of what is called the "Israeli Civil Administration," a new colonial plan to construct two buildings on the site of the central vegetable market (the old market) belonging to the Hebron municipality.

The plan includes the establishment of 63 housing units distributed over two six-story buildings above ground and two underground parking levels, in addition to a third building consisting of three floors that will include classrooms, a library, and a synagogue, with a total estimated construction area of about 12,500 square meters.

The Hebron municipality emphasized its strong rejection and condemnation of this decision, considering it a blatant infringement on its authorities, a clear violation of the city's interests and its residents, and a breach of the principles of international humanitarian law that prohibits the seizure, exploitation, or demolition of Palestinian property without justification.

It confirmed that it will take all available legal measures to contest this decision within the specified timeframe, preserving the rights of citizens and safeguarding the public interest of the city.

The municipality called upon the international community, human rights organizations, and UNESCO to intervene immediately to stop these repeated assaults on Palestinian property and ensure the protection of the rights of the Hebron municipality and the city's residents.
