Palestinian Factions Meet in Cairo This Week to Agree on 'Administration of Gaza'
SadaNews - The American newspaper "Washington Post" reported today, Sunday, November 2, 2025, that Palestinian factions are meeting in Cairo this week to reach an agreement on the "Administration of Gaza."
The newspaper quoted Arab and Palestinian officials stating that eight Palestinian factions, led by Hamas, will work during a meeting held this week in Cairo to reach a consensus on the key elements of a transitional administration for the Gaza Strip.
According to officials and individuals familiar with the progress of the talks, the factions are expected to discuss who should head the proposed technocratic committee to manage the Gaza Strip, and whether this functioning government should operate under the umbrella of the Palestinian Authority, provided the current ceasefire continues.
Palestinian and Arab officials said that the Palestinian administrative body, if formed, could work alongside or potentially replace the "Peace Council" mentioned in U.S. President Donald Trump's plan, taking charge of security in the Gaza Strip instead of foreign forces that are being considered for deployment for this purpose.
Sources added that separate discussions are underway about the potential composition of a multinational force to maintain stability.
The meetings of the Palestinian factions are being held at the invitation of Egypt. The American newspaper quoted Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Atti as saying that the aim is to establish an administrative committee entirely composed of technocrats from Gaza.
Abdel Atti added: "The main goal is to empower Palestinians, including the Palestinian Authority, to manage Gaza as an integral part of the West Bank, and as a step towards establishing a Palestinian state."
He clarified that committee members will manage the daily affairs of Palestinians, while police forces will be tasked with law enforcement and maintaining security in Gaza.
Abdel Atti stated that the United Nations Security Council should determine the precise mandate of the "Peace Council," including its relationship with the Palestinian committee, but emphasized that Egypt and the Palestinian factions agree that civil affairs in Gaza should be managed by the Palestinians themselves.
