Pakistan: Technical Talks Between America and Iran Resume Next Week

SadaNews - Pakistan has clarified that negotiations between America and Iran are ongoing, just days after the first day of those talks concluded at the Bognisch Stok resort in Switzerland.

Pakistan's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Tahir Andarabi, explained at a press conference today, Wednesday, that technical negotiations at the expert level will resume next week with Pakistani-Qatari mediation.

However, he noted that the technical talks continue between the two sides despite participants taking breaks from time to time.

Additionally, he confirmed that his country is in contact with both the American and Iranian teams for the effective implementation of the memorandum of understanding signed on June 18 between U.S. President Donald Trump and his Iranian counterpart Masoud Bezhkishan.

He also clarified that "the initial agreement stipulated a direct line of communication between the American and Iranian sides to avoid problems."

Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif emphasized yesterday, Tuesday, that his country will continue its diplomatic efforts until a lasting peace is achieved in the region, affirming the importance of dialogue and negotiation in addressing regional crises.

He also expressed hope that the ongoing technical negotiations between Tehran and Washington would lead to a sustainable agreement that enhances regional stability.

This comes after America and Iran held extensive talks in Switzerland on the night of Sunday to Monday, with the presence of the Qatari and Pakistani mediators, during which it was reported that the atmosphere was positive, just days after the signing of the memorandum of understanding.

The attendees in Switzerland also agreed to establish working committees to follow up on the issues of U.S. sanctions on Tehran, the release of Iranian funds frozen abroad, as well as the Strait of Hormuz, and the Lebanon file.
