Danger to the life of prisoner Salem Zaidat due to medical neglect
SadaNews - Prisoners Media Office reported a serious deterioration in the health condition of Palestinian prisoner Salem Ali Zaidat (45 years old) from the town of Bani Naim in Hebron Governorate, following a failed surgical operation to remove gallstones inside the occupation prisons, without receiving the necessary treatment or pain relief despite suffering from severe pain.
The office explained that the occupation authorities are procrastinating in setting a date for a new surgery for prisoner Zaidat, despite the seriousness of his health condition, which exacerbates the likelihood of complications threatening his life.
Zaidat was arrested on June 2, 2023, and underwent a harsh interrogation that lasted for 55 days, during which he was subjected to torture and medical neglect, resulting in him losing about 15 kg while being held in Nafha prison due to poor health care.
The office pointed out that Zaidat was returned to prison without completing his treatment, in a move that reflects the continued policy of deliberate medical neglect against sick prisoners, warning of a real danger to his life if urgent intervention is not taken to rescue him.
It is worth mentioning that prisoner Zaidat is a former prisoner who had spent about four years in ten separate arrests, and he had staged a hunger strike that lasted for 44 days in 2021 in protest against his administrative detention.
