Israel Set to Trial Hamas Elite Prisoners
SadaNews Translation - Hebrew channel Reshet Kan revealed today, Thursday, that the Israeli Ministry of Justice is nearing an agreement with the political level to begin the trial of those involved in the October 7 attack who were arrested inside the kibbutzim on that day.
The number of detainees is estimated to be between 250 and 300 fighters from the elite of "Hamas", most of whom have nearly completed their interrogations, according to the channel, as translated by SadaNews.
It indicated that the Israeli Attorney General's office wants to resolve their trial within the coming weeks.
The process in this case was frozen due to Hamas' capture of 20 Israeli hostages, and following their return, Justice Minister Yariv Levin decided to expedite the bill that was proposed in the Knesset to accelerate their trials.
In recent weeks, communications took place between ministry officials and the bill's sponsors, and indirectly also with the Justice Minister, resulting in initial outcomes, including, among other things, the establishment of a special trial for elite members, overseen by retired judges or those close to retirement.
Justice Minister Yariv Levin, along with Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, will form a steering committee concerned with determining the prosecution policy for elite members, although this team will be prevented from discussing individual cases.
