Bar Association: The annexation procedures are invalid and do not grant legitimacy to the occupation
SadaNews: The Palestinian Bar Association stated in a press release issued this morning that the measures taken by the occupation authorities to legislate the annexation of the West Bank through the preliminary approval of the annexation by the Israeli Knesset represent a void and null step that does not change the fact of the illegitimacy of the occupation.
The association pointed out that the occupation persistently takes interconnected steps that grossly violate international law in the context of a systematic ethnic cleansing campaign against the Palestinian people to entrench its occupation and deprive the Palestinian people of their natural right to freedom and self-determination.
The association emphasized, in describing the ongoing violations of international law by the occupying force, the seriousness of the project pursued by the occupation authorities within the frameworks of displacement and replacement through extermination wars and unprecedented acceleration in settlement expansion, which inherently leads to the practical annexation of the West Bank.
The association confirmed that the seriousness of this assault on international law, which is repeatedly violated without the slightest regard for its most basic rules, reflects extreme arrogance and a position that far exceeds the provisions of international law, which has been invalidly granted over decades. This poses an increasing and accelerating danger and a direct threat to international peace and security and requires a firm stance from the free people of the world to rein in this blind extremism and restore the principle of the right of peoples to self-determination and to live in freedom and dignity.
