Jordan Condemns Knesset's Approval of Two Bills Aiming to Annex the West Bank

SadaNews - The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs strongly condemned the Israeli Knesset's preliminary approval of two bills, one of which seeks to impose Israeli sovereignty over the occupied West Bank, while the other aims to legalize Israeli sovereignty over an illegal colonial settlement. This is seen as a blatant violation of international law, undermining the two-state solution and the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and to establish their sovereign state along the borders of June 4, 1967, with Jerusalem as its occupied capital. The ministry emphasized that Israel has no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian land.

The official spokesperson for the ministry, Fuad Majali, confirmed the kingdom's absolute rejection and strong condemnation of any Israeli attempts to impose sovereignty on the occupied West Bank in a blatant violation of international law and UN Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2334, which condemns all Israeli actions aimed at altering the demographic composition and character of the occupied Palestinian territory since 1967, including East Jerusalem, in addition to the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, which affirmed the illegality of the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land and the illegitimacy of settlement construction and annexation measures in the occupied West Bank.

Majali warned against the continuation of illegal unilateral Israeli policies that violate international law and relevant UN resolutions, reiterating that all Israeli measures in the occupied West Bank and its violations of Islamic and Christian sanctities in occupied Jerusalem are illegal and unlawful.

Majali called on the international community to bear its legal and moral responsibilities, to compel Israel to halt its dangerous escalation and illegal measures in the occupied West Bank, and to meet the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people in establishing their independent state on their national soil; the only way to achieve a just and comprehensive peace that guarantees security and stability in the region.
