Macron to Visit Egypt on Monday to Discuss Next Stages of Gaza War Ceasefire Agreement

SadaNews - French President Emmanuel Macron will head to Egypt on Monday to express "his support for implementing the agreement proposed by Donald Trump aimed at ending the war in Gaza"; the Élysée Palace announced on Saturday.

The French presidency stated that during the visit, Macron will discuss "with his partners the next stages of implementing the peace plan," without clarifying whether he will meet with his American counterpart who will also be traveling to Egypt.

It added that this visit to Sharm El Sheikh "is part of continuing the French-Saudi initiative and what was done in New York last September to implement a peace and security plan for everyone in the Middle East, based on the two-state solution."

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and his American counterpart Donald Trump will preside over an international summit in the Egyptian city of Sharm El Sheikh, preparing for the implementation of the agreement to end the Israeli war on Gaza, which was signed through Egyptian, Qatari, and American mediation.

In a telephone conversation, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Atti and his American counterpart Marco Rubio discussed the arrangements for the "Sharm El Sheikh summit that will be co-chaired by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and President Donald Trump," according to a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Saturday.

The civil defense in Gaza reported on Saturday that over half a million Palestinians have returned to the city of Gaza since the ceasefire took effect on Friday afternoon.
