Mazloum Abdi: SDF Will Be Part of the Syrian Army
SadaNews - The commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Mazloum Abdi, announced that "SDF" will be part of the Syrian army.
During a celebration marking the tenth anniversary of the founding of "SDF" last Friday evening, Abdi stated that our military committee will head to Damascus soon to discuss the integration of the Syrian Democratic Forces.
He also added that "in the framework of coordination, we will continue the fight against ISIS across all Syrian territories."
This comes as Syrian Defense Minister Mehrab Abu Qasrah announced on Tuesday a ceasefire and an immediate halt to all fire along the front lines with the Syrian Democratic Forces in areas located in northern Syria and others in the northeast, following his meeting with Abdi in Damascus.
It is noteworthy that Damascus and the "Self-Administration" have formed joint committees following the March 10 agreement between Al-Shara and Abdi to implement all terms of the agreement, which stipulated the "integration of civilian and military institutions in the northeast and northern areas of Syria," ensuring constitutional rights for the Kurds, the return of displaced persons, and the guarantee of participation for all Syrians in the transitional process, alongside other provisions rejecting calls for partition and combating remnants of the former regime.
While the two sides began negotiating publicly following the March agreement, several obstacles have prevented the continuation of discussions, as the Self-Administration insisted on retaining the special status of "SDF" within the Syrian army, a request that Damascus rejected.
The Self-Administration also called for a decentralized state, while the Syrian authorities insisted on a centralized state.
