After the Nile Flood... "Urgent Call" from the Sudanese Ministry of Irrigation
SadaNews - The Sudanese Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources called on Tuesday all citizens on the banks of the Nile to take necessary measures to protect their properties and lives.
The ministry confirmed, in a post on its Facebook page, that water levels are continuing to rise along all banks of the Nile this week, noting that the Blue Nile's inflow has decreased to 699 million cubic meters per day, and the discharge from the Roseires Dam has been reduced to 613.
It reported that the discharge from the Sennaar Dam is 688 million cubic meters per day, and the discharge from the Grand Rapids exceeds 130, while the discharge from the Kashm al-Qurba Dam exceeds 120 million cubic meters per day, and the discharge from the Merowe Dam exceeds 730.
The ministry confirmed that there are stations, states, and rivers that have reached flood levels, including the stations of Wad al-Eis (Sennar), Khartoum, Madani, Shendi, Atbara, Burber, and Jebel Awliya, in addition to the states of the Blue Nile, Sennar, Gezira, Khartoum, Nile River, and White Nile, as well as the Blue Nile rivers (Al-Daim-Khartoum) and White Nile (Al-Jabalain-Khartoum) and Nile (Khartoum-Dongola).
According to the Sudanese newspaper "Al-Rakuba", the waters of the Nile flood have reached several marginal neighborhoods along the river in the White Nile and Khartoum states.
The local emergency room of Jebel Awliya announced that the areas along the White Nile in the Jebel Awliya locality face a real danger due to the rising water levels, which have breached all barriers along the Nile in several areas, including "Al-Assal - Taybat Al-Hassanab - Al-Shuqaylab - Al-Kalaklat," and submerged them in the increasingly rising Nile waters, making their way to residential neighborhoods and citizens' homes, which are now at risk of collapse on their inhabitants.
The room stated in a statement on Monday that they have started working with limited capabilities to avoid floods and to mitigate the encroachment of the Nile's waters on residential neighborhoods as much as possible; however, the rising water levels are on the increase, and many areas are now threatened with total drowning, calling for assistance to protect and support all citizens along the White Nile.
The room called on local and international relief organizations to provide assistance and to supply tents to shelter those affected in the event of devastating floods, as well as all types of medical aid.
