SadaNews - President Donald Trump said on Monday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has agreed to the U.S. administration's plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip.
Trump confirmed at a press conference with Netanyahu at the White House that, according to the plan, Arab and Islamic countries will commit to disarming the "Hamas" movement in Gaza, indicating that the plan calls for establishing a new international oversight body in the territory.
Trump mentioned that the agreement will include Arab nations and should help achieve broader peace in the Middle East.
He added, "We are at least very close. I think we have moved past the stage of being very close... And I want to thank Bibi (Netanyahu) for taking a positive step and doing a good job."
The U.S. president noted that the "Hamas" movement has not yet agreed to his plan, emphasizing that the Israeli prime minister has his "full support" in the Gaza war if "Hamas" rejects the plan.
Trump announced that his plan includes a phased withdrawal of the Israeli army from the devastated territory.
The U.S. president told reporters, "By working with the new transition authority in Gaza, all parties will agree on a timeline for the phased withdrawal of Israeli forces."
He urged Palestinians to "take responsibility for their destiny" by moving towards accepting a peace agreement with Israel that he said would establish conditions for Israel's lasting security.
Trump said, "There are many Palestinians willing to live in peace."
He added, "I call on the Palestinians to take responsibility for their fate, because that’s what we are offering them."
Trump continued, "If the Palestinian Authority does not complete the reforms it has set... they will have no one to blame but themselves."
Meanwhile, Netanyahu said: "We will take significant steps regarding the end of the war in Gaza and the scene concerning sustainable peace," announcing his support for Trump’s plan, which he said achieves Israel’s objectives.
He added: "This plan will bring back all the hostages and dismantle Hamas's military capabilities and political role, ensuring that Gaza will not pose a threat to Israel again."
He continued: "We would not be achieving these goals without the sacrifices of our soldiers.”
He referred to coordinated strikes between the U.S. and Israel against Iran, which he said made the region safer.
Netanyahu said: "Under your leadership, we will take a new step to expand peace and end the war, which aligns with my government's principles for ending the war and the day after the war."
He added: "All living and deceased hostages will return immediately, and Hamas will disarm, Gaza will be a demilitarized zone, and Israel will take over security control of the borders."
He continued: "Gaza will have civilian governance that does not include Hamas or the Palestinian Authority."
He added: "If Hamas agrees to your plan (addressing Trump), Israel will withdraw gradually."
Netanyahu continued: "If Hamas rejects your plan (addressing Trump) or accepts it and later breaks its promises, Israel will carry out this mission its own way, either with difficulty or easily, which we prefer."
He said: "We did not fight and make all these sacrifices to keep Hamas in Gaza as a threat to us time and again."
He added: "The Palestinian state would be a reward for 'terrorism,' and the authority would have no role whatsoever unless it undertakes radical reforms."
He continued: "The Palestinian Authority must change textbooks, stop incitement, halt actions before the International Criminal Court, recognize a Jewish state, and implement other reforms."
Netanyahu claimed that the majority of Israelis do not believe that the Authority will change its positions.
He said: "Your plan gives us hope that Gaza will not be run by Hamas or the Authority but by those committed to peace with Israel."
He added: "This will be a beginning not just for Gaza but for the whole region, and the Abraham Accords are proof of that."
Regarding Qatar, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed regret for the death of a Qatari officer, affirming that he was not targeted and that our attack aimed to target Hamas, not Qatar, and this is what I informed the Prime Minister of Qatar.
He added: "I support the president’s plan to establish a tripartite mechanism for cooperation between us and Qatar."
The U.S. Plan
The White House published details of Trump's plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip.
The White House stated that the plan includes a phased withdrawal of the Israeli army in three stages, with an immediate end to the war if both sides agree in favor of it.
The plan sets a timeframe of 72 hours from the moment Israel publicly accepts this agreement to facilitate the return of living hostages and the remains of the deceased, affirming that Tel Aviv will not occupy or annex Gaza.
Once all hostages are released, Israel will free 250 Palestinians serving life sentences and 1,700 Gaza citizens who were arrested after the war began on October 7, 2023.
The plan also mentions that the Strip will be a region free from "extremism and terrorism" and will not pose a threat to its neighbors.
The White House confirmed that according to the plan, no one among the population will be forced to leave Gaza, while those who wish to leave will be free to do so and will have the freedom to return.
Regarding the distribution of aid, the White House confirmed that it will be done through the United Nations and its agencies and the Red Crescent.
The plan also stipulates the establishment of a temporary governance council for the Strip headed by Trump and includes former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
