British Website: No Hope in Convincing Putin, War is Coming
SadaNews - The British site "iPaper" published an analytical report stating that all hopes of convincing Russian President Vladimir Putin have evaporated, and the war - which is no longer just the Ukraine war - is coming.
The report, prepared by the site's correspondent in Brussels, Leo Androvich, pointed to the agreement of EU defense ministers in an emergency meeting on Friday to prepare plans for building a defensive network against drones that covers the entire eastern front and protects vital infrastructure.
Drone Wall
He stated that this defensive network has been dubbed the "Drone Wall"; it is not a magic solution, but it at least indicates the acknowledgment that war is on the way and that Europe must move much faster.
He quoted European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen saying that Europe must respond to the call to build a wall of drones, using radars, acoustic sensors, and interception systems.
The report also quoted NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg warning that Europe cannot continue to launch missiles costing millions of euros to intercept drones worth only a tiny fraction of that, and that the deterrence equation requires a new approach.
He noted that Ukraine is considered a key element in this project, as while Europe has financed its defenses, the Ukrainians - who have rapidly developed their drone capabilities - are able to share their field expertise in developing and deploying these weapons that have become symbols of the war.
Britain Engages Strongly
The report clarified that Britain's decision to engage strongly in the European project to build the "Drone Wall" reflects an increasing recognition that the war is no longer confined within the borders of Ukraine.
The United Kingdom has begun - in cooperation with Ukraine - producing large numbers of low-cost intercept drones, preparing to form a baseline for an air defense barrier extending along NATO's eastern front.
The writer commented that the message is clear: the war is no longer just Ukraine's war, but the whole of Europe's war.
Russian Breaches
He added that the British initiative comes in the wake of a series of breaches that have made the war dangerously imminent, referring to breaches of airspace in Poland, Denmark, Norway, Romania, and Sweden by drones believed to be Russian.
He also pointed to three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets spending a full 12 minutes inside Estonian airspace earlier this month, claiming Moscow did so "by mistake," which only a few believed.
Clear Russian Pattern
Androvich stated that Russia has begun following a clear pattern: Putin is testing NATO for vulnerabilities to see how far he can go without facing military response.
He continued by saying that the time for betting on the possibility of convincing Putin has ended, and Europe is being pushed towards a defensive revolution, accelerating joint procurement plans, air defense integration, and industrial mobilization.
Alongside this, the writer refers to a European loan to Ukraine valued at £122 billion, funded by frozen Russian assets, stating that this step represents a sharp turning point in the story of European security.
