Iran Executes "One of the Most Important Israeli Spies"
SadaNews - The Iranian authorities executed today, Monday, "one of the most important spies for Israel in Iran", according to the Mizan news agency affiliated with the judicial authority in the country.
Mizan reported that the Israeli intelligence agency "Mossad" attempted to obtain a database of government institutions and infiltrate Iranian data centers, as well as exploring the import of electronic equipment.
The agency added that the Supreme Court that charged the spy, named "Bahman Choobi Asal", rejected his appeal and affirmed the death sentence for the crime of "corruption on earth".
Tehran, which has been waging a shadow war with Israel for decades, has executed several individuals accused of having ties to the "Mossad" and facilitating its operations in the country.
The Iranian-Israeli conflict escalated into direct warfare in June, when Israel bombed various targets inside Iran, including operations that relied on deploying special forces from the Mossad deep into the country.
The executions of Iranians convicted of espionage for Israel have significantly increased this year, with at least 10 sentences carried out in the past few months.
On June 13, Israel launched a wide-ranging attack on Iran, code-named "Rising Lion", supported implicitly by the United States, bombing nuclear and military facilities in various areas, assassinating prominent military leaders and nuclear scientists, and targeting civilian and sovereign sites, including the official television building.
The war, which lasted 12 days, revealed security gaps in Iran, with a series of assassinations of leaders and scientists, prompting the Supreme National Security Council at the time to vow to impose the harshest penalties, including death, on anyone who cooperates with or spies for Israel.
