Haaretz: Netanyahu's Speech at the United Nations is an Empty Show

SadaNews - The Israeli newspaper Haaretz described Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech before the United Nations General Assembly in New York as "repetitive and devoid of any new messages," considering that it once again demonstrated that "Netanyahu has nothing to offer the world, and he is absolutely reliant on U.S. President Donald Trump."

The newspaper's correspondent, Lisa Rozovski, who is dispatched to New York, noted that Netanyahu resorted to "propaganda tricks" starting with raising a map marked with a check (✓) above "defeated enemies," all the way to what she termed "dystopian tactics" by broadcasting his speech in Gaza through loudspeakers and taking control of Palestinian phones to send messages in Hebrew.

She added that the most controversial aspect was the "barcode" attached to the collar of his suit, leading to the scanning of images of Israeli corpses, describing it as having turned his body into a "gallery of atrocities" before the world.

During Netanyahu's speech, the General Assembly hall was almost empty, after delegations from Islamic, African, Latin American, and even European countries withdrew, while dozens of Netanyahu's supporters merely clapped for him from the balcony.

Rozovski explained that Netanyahu targeted two main audiences: the right-wing base inside Israel, which would produce propaganda clips showing the broadcast of his speech in Gaza, and the American audience, primarily Trump.

She continued, "Thus, more than citing American generals and reminding about the intelligence gains Washington derives from cooperating with Israel, he even accused Iran of trying to assassinate Trump on two occasions, despite it being well-known that there was only one incident. He also resorted to comparing the events of October 7, 2023 to equivalent to 'the killing of 40,000 Americans and the kidnapping of 10,000 others.'"

In another aspect, Netanyahu launched an attack on European leaders who recognized the state of Palestine, reiterating his outright rejection of establishing a Palestinian state, even though he previously supported the idea in a speech at Bar Ilan University in 2009 under strict security conditions.

He also attempted to deny accusations of genocide directed at Israel in Gaza by comparing the situation to Nazi Germany, to which the newspaper responded by affirming that the Nazis indeed encouraged Jewish immigration in their early years.

Rozovski emphasized that the speech, which "strived to spread vague promises of peace, arising from Israel's power in the Middle East," included nothing new regarding the war or the possibility of reaching a deal, to the extent that the scheduled briefing for Israeli journalists was canceled at the last moment.

She concluded her article by stating that Netanyahu "once again proved from the United Nations platform that he is offering nothing new and has no discourse for dialogue with the world; rather, he places all his hopes and efforts in one direction: the White House, in an absolute dependency on Trump."
