Denmark: Unidentified Drones Spotted Over Several Airports in the Country
SadaNews - The Danish police announced that unidentified drones were spotted late Wednesday to Thursday over four of the country's airports, causing one of them to close for several hours.
The drones were seen flying over Aalborg (north), Esbjerg (west), Sonderborg (south), and Skydstrup Air Base (south) before leaving these sites.
This security breach follows sightings of unidentified drones over Copenhagen Airport, as well as over Oslo Airport in neighboring Norway, which disrupted air traffic at both locations for several hours.
According to the police, this breach on Wednesday led to the closure of Aalborg Airport, located in northern Denmark and considered one of the largest airports in the country after Copenhagen, which was reopened after several hours.
Chief Inspector of North Jutland Police, Jesper Bugge Madsen, stated in a statement regarding what happened at Aalborg Airport that "it was not possible to shoot down the drones that flew over a very large area for two hours. Also, we have not yet been able to capture their operators."
Meanwhile, the South Jutland Police stated that they "received several reports late Wednesday about drone activity at Esbjerg, Sonderborg, and Skydstrup airports."
Esbjerg and Sonderborg airports were not closed as there were no scheduled flights before Thursday morning.
The Danish police explained in their statement that these drones "were flying with lights and were observed from the ground, but it is still unclear what type they are... or what their motives are."
They added that they "are investigating extensively in cooperation with the Danish intelligence agency and the armed forces to clarify the circumstances" of this breach.
Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen stated on Tuesday that the country has witnessed "the most serious attack on Danish critical infrastructure," shortly after large drones flew over Copenhagen Airport, causing its closure for hours.
