Al-Shara: No Threat from Syria and Israel Must Withdraw to Pre-December 8 Lines

SadaNews - Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara emphasized the need for Israel to accept the deployment of international forces according to the 1974 agreement, stressing that Syria's return to the previous situation is not in anyone's interest.

Al-Shara added during a symposium in New York: "Israel must return to its position prior to December 8, 2024, and we have stated that we will not be a source of danger to anyone."

He further stated that "Syria wants to be at an equal distance from everyone. It is not in anyone's interest for Syria to return to the previous situation."

He emphasized that "the success of any agreement with Israel paves the way for other agreements that help to promote peace in the region."

Regarding the internal situation, al-Shara stated that "the stability of Syria is linked to its unity, and any attempt at division will lead to serious conflicts."

He explained that "any talk of dividing Syria harms Syria first and neighboring countries, especially Turkey and Iraq."

He emphasized the need for the application of transitional justice "without frightening people or making any group feel targeted."

He pointed out that "since Damascus was liberated, one million people have returned to Syria, and the export of captagon has decreased by 90 percent."

Regarding the Kurdish file, al-Shara revealed that "Washington can help the Kurds integrate into the Syrian state forces."

Al-Shara also addressed the situation in Sweida, saying that "in Sweida, mistakes were made by all, and there are new efforts for reconciliation and healing hearts."

He concluded his statements by saying that his visit to New York is "a symbol of Syria's return to the international community."
