Washington Describes Recognition by Some Allies of a Palestinian State as "Theatrical"
SadaNews - The United States described the recognition by several of its key allies, including Britain, Australia, and Canada, of a Palestinian state as "theatrical".
A spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated, "Our focus remains on serious diplomacy and not on theatrical gestures," as he put it.
The Permanent Observer of Palestine to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, described the recognition by more countries of the state of Palestine as a "historic moment that must be built upon".
Commenting on the announcement by Britain, Australia, Canada, and Portugal to recognize the Palestinian state on the eve of the two-state solution conference in New York, Mansour considered this development, particularly the recognition by Britain, a "step in the right direction towards correcting the path and achieving justice for the Palestinian people on the road to fulfilling their full national rights, including their right to self-determination".
