Egypt's Foreign Minister Discusses Gaza Situation in Abu Dhabi and Heads to Qatar in Solidarity
SadaNews - Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelattif discussed developments in the Gaza Strip with his Emirati counterpart Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The two ministers met in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday, and Abdelattif departed for Qatar on Thursday in solidarity following Israeli aggression, according to two statements from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.
The ministry stated: "Abdelattif held a bilateral meeting with Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Wednesday as part of his current visit to the Emirati capital, Abu Dhabi."
The two ministers discussed "bilateral relations, with developments in the occupied Palestinian territories dominating the discussions."
They agreed on the "necessity of putting an end to the disastrous humanitarian situation in Gaza due to Israeli practices."
With American support, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, resulting in 64,656 deaths and 163,503 injuries among Palestinians, most of whom are children and women, and hundreds of thousands of displaced individuals, with famine causing the death of 404 Palestinians, including 141 children.
Abdelattif expressed his "condemnation of the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza."
He emphasized that "what Gaza is experiencing in terms of systematic killing and starvation represents a blatant violation of all international law, undermining opportunities for calm and settlement."
The two ministers also expressed their "strong condemnation of the blatant Israeli aggression that targeted the Qatari capital Doha on Tuesday."
They confirmed their "full solidarity with the sisterly State of Qatar, its leadership, government, and people."
They considered this attack as "a highly dangerous escalation that cannot be accepted under any pretext, constituting a direct harm to the security of a sister state, which is considered an integral part of Arab national security."
They stressed their "absolute rejection of any assault on the sovereignty of Arab states."
The ministers also discussed the situation in Sudan and efforts to address the crisis, with Abdelattif emphasizing the "importance of a ceasefire and ensuring the accessibility of aid to all the people of the sisterly Sudan."
Since April 2023, the Sudanese army and the "Rapid Support Forces" have been engaged in a war that has resulted in the deaths of more than 20,000 individuals and the displacement and refugee flow of nearly 15 million, according to the United Nations and local authorities, while a study conducted by American universities estimated the death toll to be around 130,000.
In a second statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry reported that Abdelattif headed to Doha for "discussions with senior Qatari officials, to express Egypt's full solidarity with the sisterly State of Qatar and to explore ways to address the dangerous Israeli escalation and coordinate stances."
Doha witnessed solidarity visits on Wednesday from UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Kuwaiti Crown Prince Sabah Khaled Al Hamad Al Sabah, and Jordanian Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II.
On Tuesday, the Israeli army announced that it had launched an airstrike targeting the leadership of Hamas in Doha, without mentioning its outcome at this time.
Qatar condemned the Israeli attack and affirmed its right to respond to this aggression that killed a member of the internal security forces.
Meanwhile, Hamas announced the survival of its negotiating delegation, led by its head in Gaza, Khalil Al-Hayya, from an assassination attempt, with the death of his office director Jihad Al-Labed, his son Hammam Al-Hayya, and three companions: Abdullah Abdul Wahid, Mo'men Hassouna, and Ahmad Al-Mamlouk.
The Israeli aggression against Qatar's sovereignty has drawn Arab and international condemnations, with calls for the necessity of deterring Tel Aviv to stop its repeated assaults that violate international law.
The attack on Qatar came despite its mediating role, alongside Egypt and with American participation, in indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel to reach an agreement for prisoner exchange and a ceasefire.
With this attack, Israel has expanded its aggressions in the region, as it launched an aggression against Iran last June and has been committing ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip for nearly two years, along with attacks in the occupied West Bank, and conducting airstrikes in Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen.
