Report: New Meeting Between Shibani and Dermer This Week
SadaNews - Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer is set to meet with Syrian Foreign Minister Osama Shibani again this week, according to a report from the Israeli public broadcaster ("Kan 11") on Sunday evening.
The broadcaster reported that Dermer and Shibani will meet without specifying the location of their meeting.
Dermer and Shibani have previously met several times "to pave the way for a security agreement between Israel and Syria," while the U.S. envoy, Thomas Barak, is working to facilitate this new meeting between them, according to the report, noting that he has previously met with both.
On the twentieth of last month, Dermer met with the Syrian foreign minister, mediated by Washington, and with the U.S. envoy to Syria, Thomas Barak, in the French capital, Paris.
Damascus confirmed at that time the meeting between Shibani and Dermer, with the Syrian news agency "SANA" reporting that "a number of files related to enhancing stability in the region and southern Syria were discussed."
The discussions focused on de-escalation, non-interference in Syrian internal affairs, reaching understandings that support stability in the region, monitoring the ceasefire in Suwayda province, and reactivating the 1974 agreement, as reported by "SANA."
"SANA" noted that these discussions are taking place with American mediation, as part of diplomatic efforts aimed at enhancing security and stability in Syria and preserving its territorial integrity and unity.
