Mona Wasef Honored as "Ambassador of Peace"... and Joins "Mawlana" with Taim Hassan

SadaNews - The "Syria of Hope" celebration witnessed the honoring of the renowned artist Mona Wasef, as the International Human Rights Organization awarded her the title of "Ambassador of Peace in the World," in recognition of her long artistic career and her contributions to Syrian and Arab drama. The honor also reflected her status as a humanitarian symbol who has helped instill values of love and peace, and enhance the spirit of solidarity among peoples.

During the ceremony held last night, the Syrian artist expressed her pride in this title, noting that her diverse roots as the daughter of a Christian mother and a Sunni Kurdish father have given her a broader and deeper perspective on life. She affirmed that homeland is like a mother that one cannot abandon or hate, adding that love alone is not enough; it must be accompanied by giving and sacrifice. She continued by saying that honoring the homeland is a duty, just as God has honored mothers, because true belonging is not based on slogans but on action and sincerity.

In an emotional moment during the ceremony, the Syrian Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Hind Qabawat approached artist Mona Wasef to embrace her warmly and kiss her hands, in a scene that reflected her special place in the hearts of Syrians.

In press statements following the honor, Wasef expressed her pride in the recognition and the title of "Ambassador of Peace," emphasizing that Syrians deserve to live in safety after the heavy suffering caused by wars. She noted that the value of peace is not measured by slogans, but by the daily commitment that enhances the spirit of humanity and spreads the values of love and tolerance everywhere.

Regarding her personal vision, she indicated that what frightens her the most is the idea of silence becoming a means of escape, considering that the harshest manifestations of that silence appear in the eyes of children when they are torn from their families or deprived of their basic needs. She affirmed that the title for her is not merely a recognition of her career but a doubled responsibility to continue her message.

Reflecting on her artistic journey, she explained that what has kept her close to her audience throughout the years is her true love for acting. Initially, she sought fame, but she soon realized that true success lies in being beloved through works that deserve respect and leave a genuine impact.

Partnership and Success

On another note, Mona Wasef is preparing to participate in the series "Mawlana," alongside Taim Hassan, Nour Ali, and Abdel-Moneim Amayri. The series is written by Lubna Haddad and directed by Samer Barqawi.

This series comes to renew the artistic partnership between Wasef and Taim Hassan following a series of successful collaborations that began with "Al-Heeba" in its five seasons, then "Taj," leading up to "Tahta Sab'a Ard" which aired during last Ramadan season.

Mona Wasef, who is 83 years old, holds a special position among the audience, who have dubbed her the "Oak Tree of Drama." Throughout her career, which began in the 1960s, she has participated in over 200 artistic works, including "Bab Al-Hara," "Al-Wilada Min Al-Khasira," and "Madrasat Al-Hob," among many roles that solidified her success and made her one of the most prominent stars in Arab drama.
