After His Arrest.. The Occupation Incites Against Hebron Mayor Taysir Abu Sneina

SadaNews: Following his re-arrest early this morning, Hebrew media began inciting against Hebron Mayor Taysir Abu Sneina by reopening the case of the Dubuia operation in 1980, during which 6 Israelis were killed. Hebrew Channel 14 reported that "Abu Sneina" is considered a prominent figure in Hebron, and is a member of the cell that carried out the attack. Israeli forces arrested him, and he was convicted and sentenced to life in prison. After serving only about three years, he was released in November 1983 as part of a prisoner exchange deal that led to the release of 6 Nahal Israeli soldiers who had been captured in Lebanon. The Hebrew channel adds: "After his release, Abu Sneina was expelled to Algeria, then moved to Jordan, where he served as a member of the organizing committee of Fatah. In recent years, he returned to the Palestinian territories and was elected mayor of Hebron," according to SadaNews translation. Local sources reported that the occupation forces stormed the mayor's house in the city of Hebron, searched it after breaking down its doors and rummaging through its contents, before arresting him and transferring him to an unknown location.
