Rapid Support Forces Launch Artillery Shelling on Abu Shouk Camp in El Fasher

SadaNews - Sources from the Sudanese army reported that the Rapid Support Forces shelled the Abu Shouk camp for displaced persons in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, with artillery today, Monday.

The sources did not immediately provide statistics on the material or human losses resulting from the shelling of the camp, where residents are suffering from difficult living conditions.

The camp's emergency room had confirmed that its residents live in conditions of severe food, medicine, and water shortages, affecting their health and turning children into "skeletons."

It added on its Facebook page that camp residents cannot leave the camp or El Fasher to other areas due to a lack of security at exit points.

It was clarified that a number of camp residents have died due to hunger and continuous shelling, in addition to recorded cases of enforced disappearances of citizens.

At least 7 people were killed and 71 others were injured the day before yesterday, Saturday, in another shelling attack by the Rapid Support Forces on the besieged city of El Fasher, according to a medical source on Sunday.

The attack targeted overcrowded neighborhoods in the west of the city near the airport that these forces are trying to control.

The medical source at El Fasher hospital, requesting anonymity, expected that "the number of victims would be higher because some couldn't reach the hospital due to the intensity of the shelling."

The few hospitals still operational in the city are facing repeated shelling, while the Rapid Support Forces have taken control of the local police headquarters.

Since April 2023, Sudan has been witnessing a bloody war between the army led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces led by his former deputy, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti). The conflict has resulted in the death of tens of thousands and the displacement of millions.

Since May of the same year, the Rapid Support Forces have imposed a blockade on El Fasher, the only major city in the Darfur region still under the army's control.

Since the army regained control of Khartoum last March, the Rapid Support Forces have intensified their attacks on El Fasher and the surrounding camps in an attempt to tighten their grip on western Sudan.
