The Return of Settlement to 'Homesh'.. Opening of a Kindergarten After 20 Years of Disengagement
SadaNews - A kindergarten has been opened in the settlement of "Homesh" north of Nablus for the first time since the implementation of the Israeli disengagement plan in 2005. This event has been considered a sign of a significant retreat from the commitment to that plan, which called for the evacuation of four settlements in the northern West Bank along with 21 settlements in the Gaza Strip.
During the opening of the kindergarten, the head of the Settlements Council of Northern West Bank, Yossi Dagan, stated from within the new building: "The disengagement plan is over, and the people of Israel are alive," as translated by SadaNews.
The disengagement plan approved by Ariel Sharon's government in 2005 aimed to reduce friction with the Palestinians by unilaterally withdrawing from Gaza and evacuating settlements in the northern West Bank, including "Homesh," which is built on private Palestinian land.
However, in May 2023, the Israeli occupation army annulled the previous decision, allowing settlers to return to "Homesh."
