A Meeting in Washington.. Trump Leads Discussions at the White House to End the Gaza War
SadaNews - The U.S. special envoy, Steve Witkoff, announced that President Donald Trump will chair a broad meeting at the White House on Wednesday, dedicated to discussing the developments of the war in Gaza, noting that the U.S. administration hopes to reach a final settlement to the conflict before the end of this year.
In the same context, the U.S. State Department revealed an upcoming meeting between Secretary Marco Rubio and his Israeli counterpart, Gideon Sa'ar, as part of a series of official consultations scheduled by the department regarding the Gaza crisis.
This political move comes amid escalating pressures on Trump to fulfill his 2024 campaign promise to swiftly end the war, a promise that has not materialized since he took office last January, despite his administration successfully enforcing a temporary ceasefire that lasted two months and ended in mid-March, followed by Israeli airstrikes that resulted in the deaths of about 400 Palestinians.
The humanitarian situation in the sector has worsened, heightening the urgency of U.S. efforts, as data from the Gaza Health Ministry indicates that the ongoing war since October 2023 has resulted in the martyrdom of more than 62,000 Palestinians, alongside a severe food crisis and widespread internal displacement.
Images of starving children and massive destruction have sparked a wave of global outrage, pushing the international community to intensify its criticism of Israel, which faces allegations before international courts of committing war crimes and genocide, allegations that Tel Aviv denies.
In response to a question about the post-war plan, Witkoff confirmed that a comprehensive plan is being prepared, which will be discussed at the meeting led by Trump, although he did not disclose details or participants in it.
He also indicated that Israel has shown a willingness to continue dialogue with Hamas, which in turn has shown openness to the possibility of reaching a settlement agreement.
