Civil Organizations: The Occupation's Piracy of Shops in Ramallah Aims to Strike at the Foundations of the Local Economy
SadaNews - The Palestinian Network of Non-Governmental Organizations has called for immediate action to stop the escalating assaults by the occupation state in the occupied Palestinian territories. The network views the wide and brutal incursion that took place this morning, "Tuesday," in downtown Ramallah, including the storming of shops, including currency exchange shops, the confiscation of their contents, and the arrest of their workers, as an extension of the hostile actions targeting the Palestinian people. This systematic piracy aims to destroy the foundations of the local economy amid the ongoing theft of tax revenues, known as clearance funds, and the continued blockade and closures, alongside the destruction of crops, as occurred in many areas including the town of Al-Mughayir, where tens of thousands of fruitful olive trees were uprooted during the 72-hour incursion into the town.
The network affirmed that what is happening is a systematic and comprehensive aggression against the most basic aspects of life aimed at implementing a plan for displacement and attempts to uproot the Palestinian people from their land. It considers the continued incursions into Palestinian cities, including Ramallah and Al-Bireh, where the Palestinian Authority and leadership are located, as part of a scheme to end the Authority itself and destabilize its existence. This requires action at the international levels to secure international protection for the Palestinian people and to pressure for an end to the open aggression, including the genocide in the Gaza Strip, and to formally address international institutions with clear memos to stop economic and trade agreements with it.
In the same context, the network called for immediate action to compel the occupying state to halt its procedures and to consider its practices in the Palestinian territories as war crimes that necessitate activating international accountability tools and taking tangible steps that compel the occupying state to cease its actions, alongside working to suspend its membership in international institutions due to the severity of the attacks being perpetrated by both settler gangs and occupation soldiers.
The network condemned the siege and repression of participants, including women, children, and families of prisoners, during the weekly sit-in in front of the Al-Bireh Cultural Center on the occasion of the National Day for the Recovery of the Bodies of Martyrs held in what are known as numbered cemeteries or the occupation's refrigerators, and the live ammunition fired at them, and the deployment of snipers on nearby buildings during the sit-in, as well as the throwing of sound bombs and tear gas at them, injuring many of them. This is a disgraceful act that represents a violation of international law and humanitarian law.
