Trump and World Leaders Condemn the Murder of Journalists in Gaza

SadaNews - The Israeli strike targeting a hospital in Gaza and a tent for journalists has sparked angry international reactions and has been condemned by international organizations and press freedom advocates.

U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his discontent today, Monday, regarding the Israeli airstrike that claimed the lives of 20 people, including five journalists, noting that he was unaware of it.

Trump told reporters at the White House, "I am not satisfied with it. I don’t want to see it. At the same time, we need to end this... nightmare."

French President Emmanuel Macron stated that the media must be able to perform its duties freely, emphasizing that targeting journalists inside a hospital is unacceptable.

- "We are working closely with Qatar to ensure the success of mediation efforts and in preparation for the conference on the two-state solution that will be held in New York next September."

International Condemnation

The United Nations stressed that journalists and hospitals should never be targeted.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights spokesperson Ravina Shamdasani stated in a statement, "The killing of journalists in Gaza should be a shock to the world, not driving it to silence but to action for accountability and justice," stressing that "journalists are not targets. Hospitals are not targets" in any war.

Silencing Voices

On his part, UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini noted today (Monday) that the killing of journalists in Gaza silences the last remaining voices conveying the famine and the deaths of children in the region.

The Commissioner added that it is time for political will to end the famine and protect journalists and humanitarian and health workers.

"Horrifying" Attack

Meanwhile, British Foreign Minister David Lammy expressed his horror on Monday after Israel bombed Al-Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza.

Lammy stated in a post on X, "I am horrified by the Israeli attack on Al-Nasser Hospital. Civilians, healthcare workers, and journalists must be protected. A ceasefire must be implemented immediately."

Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares strongly condemned the killing of journalists in Gaza, stating that it constitutes a violation of international law.

"Stop Fire Now!"

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus called on Monday for an end to attacks on healthcare facilities in Gaza.

Ghebreyesus stated in a post on X, "While the residents of Gaza are starving, access to healthcare, which was already limited, is becoming increasingly restricted due to repeated attacks... We can only reiterate: Stop attacks on healthcare. Stop fire now!"

The Foreign Press Association demanded today (Monday) an "immediate clarification" from the Israeli army and the Prime Minister's office after five journalists were killed in two Israeli strikes on a hospital in southern Gaza.

The association, based in Jerusalem and representing journalists working from Israel and the West Bank and Gaza with foreign media, stated in a statement: "We demand an immediate clarification from the Israeli army and the Israeli Prime Minister's office. We urge Israel, definitively, to stop its heinous practice of targeting journalists."

The Turkish Presidential Communications Directorate declared today (Monday) that the latest Israeli strike in Gaza is an attack on press freedom and a new war crime.

Meanwhile, the Saudi Foreign Ministry expressed the kingdom's condemnation of the targeting of medical, relief, and media personnel by Israeli occupation forces at Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis, southern Gaza.

The ministry reiterated the kingdom's rejection of ongoing Israeli violations of international laws and norms, reiterating its call for the international community to put an end to these Israeli crimes, emphasizing the necessity of providing protection for those working in the medical, humanitarian, and media fields.

While Netanyahu's office tweeted in English after Trump's statements, "Israel expresses its deep sorrow for the tragic incident that occurred today at Al-Nasser Hospital in Gaza."

It added: "Israel values the work of journalists and medical staff, and all civilians, and military authorities are conducting an in-depth investigation... Our war is with Hamas terrorists, and our just goal is to defeat Hamas and bring our hostages home," according to their claim.
