France Summons US Ambassador Over 'Unacceptable' Letter
SadaNews: France summoned the US ambassador to Paris, Charles Kushner, after a letter he sent to President Emmanuel Macron claimed that Paris was not doing enough to combat antisemitism.
The French Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Sunday that Kushner would appear on Monday before the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, emphasizing that his claims are "unacceptable" and constitute "a violation of international law and the principle of non-interference in internal affairs," as well as being "inappropriate for the level of trust between allies."
The ministry added that French authorities are "fully mobilized" to address the increase in antisemitic acts since the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, describing these acts as "intolerable."
This dispute comes just days after Macron rejected Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's accusations that France's intention to recognize a Palestinian state fuels antisemitism.
It is worth mentioning that Kushner, a real estate developer, is the father of Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of former US President Donald Trump. France is home to the largest Jewish community in Western Europe, numbering around half a million people, which is about 1 percent of the population.
