Al-Shara: We are in an advanced stage of reaching a security agreement with Israel

SadaNews - Syrian President Ahmad Al-Shara stated during his meeting with an Arab media delegation: "We are in an advanced stage of reaching a security agreement with Israel, and the chances of completing this agreement are greater than the chances of not reaching it."

Al-Shara continued: "If it happens, it will be based on the 1974 Line of Disengagement, which preserves Syria's sovereignty and opens the door for confidence-building measures and perhaps reaching a peace agreement."

Al-Shara pointed out that he does not see the current circumstances as opportune for concluding a peace agreement with Israel, but he affirmed that if he believed a peace agreement would serve Syria and the region, he would not hesitate to conclude it and it would be done publicly."

The Syrian presidency announced on Sunday that President Ahmad Al-Shara received an Arab media delegation in the capital, Damascus, and the meeting reviewed the developments in Syria and relations with neighboring countries.

Regarding Lebanon, the Syrian president clarified that he does not want to usurp the decisions of the Lebanese or theorize about them, and he wishes to open a new page with Lebanon in the hopes that Lebanon will benefit from the expected economic revival in Syria.

He also confirmed that Damascus wants a state-to-state relationship with Lebanon, which is why he prefers to approach Lebanese officials directly rather than speaking to the media.

He also noted Al-Shara's commitment to not getting dragged into battles within Lebanon despite the international and local motives encouraging such involvement, considering it a trap for both Syria and Lebanon, and he decided to overlook the wounds caused by Hezbollah in Syria and open a new page for the future."
