Trump: I Will Patrol With Police and Military in Washington
SadaNews - President Donald Trump said he would patrol the streets of Washington on Thursday evening with police and the military, following the deployment of National Guard forces in the nation's capital last week.
In an interview with Todd Starnes, a correspondent for Newsmax on his radio program, Trump stated, "I will go out tonight, I believe, with the police, and of course with the military."
A White House official said that details of Trump's plans would be announced soon, according to Reuters.
Trump has deployed thousands of National Guard soldiers and federal agents in the city as an unusual assertion of presidential authority, citing what he claimed is a wave of violent crime.
City officials have rejected this assertion, pointing to federal and city statistics that show violent crimes have significantly decreased since a spike in 2023.
On Wednesday, Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth visited the troops at Union Station, the central train station in Washington, despite the gathering of protesters there who were chanting and making sarcastic comments against them.
