Israeli Occupation Army Publishes Results of Its Investigation into the "Khan Younis Ambush"
SadaNews - The Israeli occupation army announced today details of a qualitative attack carried out by Palestinian resistance in the Gaza Strip on a military headquarters belonging to it west of Khan Younis city in southern Gaza Strip, confirming that 15 armed men participated in the operation, which was described as one of the most complex attacks since the recent escalation.
According to preliminary investigations conducted by the occupation army, the attackers emerged from a tunnel located about 40 meters from the targeted military site, dividing themselves into three combat cells. The operation began by targeting cameras and observation towers, which disrupted the monitoring systems in the initial moments of the attack.
One of the cells headed to a building housing the deputy commander of the company and several soldiers who were sleeping inside, where the armed men managed to storm the building, throw hand grenades, and open fire, resulting in a direct face-to-face clash between the two sides. The clash resulted in the martyrdom of several attackers, while others managed to withdraw, according to the occupation army's investigation.
Following the attack, the occupation army sent military reinforcements to the site and called on the air force to deal with the situation. The military statement indicated that the armed men fired "RPG" shells towards military buildings, while one of the tanks managed to kill three of them, and ran over another who was carrying a shell of the same type.
At the same time, a second cell remained in the rear line and launched mortar shells to hinder the arrival of rescue forces, before withdrawing through the tunnel after planting explosive devices in the vicinity of the site. The operation lasted about ten minutes, but the searching and combing operations for the militants took three hours until the last member of the group was found.
The army noted that the attackers brought with them a stretcher, indicating a premeditated intention to capture one of the occupation soldiers. The investigation also revealed that the tunnel used in the operation had been discovered two months prior, where the army destroyed parts of it; however, Hamas was able to repair and reuse it, indicating its advanced engineering capabilities despite the blockade and repeated military strikes.
