Two Syrian Security Personnel Killed in Tartous After Being Shot by Armed Men
SadaNews - Two Syrian security personnel were killed after being shot by armed men at a checkpoint in the city of Tartous in the northwest of the country.
Syrian news agency (SANA) reported on Tuesday, citing a security source, that the internal security patrol suspected a car parked by the roadside, and as the personnel approached to inspect it, a person inside the car opened fire directly at them, resulting in the immediate death of two personnel.
The source explained that the armed men fled, noting that the relevant authorities are currently working to identify them in order to arrest and bring them to justice.
Since the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime, the new Syrian administration has been making intensive efforts to maintain security in the country, including pursuing remnants of the previous regime who attempt to incite chaos and destabilize various regions.
Syria has witnessed a series of violent clashes between security forces and armed men following the fall of the Assad regime, leading to a significant wave of civilian and military violence across the different provinces.
The intensity of the clashes escalated after the collapse of the central authority, with the Syrian army divided between supporters of the previous regime and armed opposition forces.
Major events included direct confrontations in major cities such as Damascus, Aleppo, and Homs, where entire neighborhoods suffered extensive destruction due to indiscriminate shelling and ground attacks.
Fighting also emerged in rural areas such as Idlib and Daraa, which became theaters of armed conflict between opposition factions and the previous security forces, sometimes supported by local and regional militias.
