Brazil: Israeli Colonial Plan 'E1' Threatens the Existence of the State of Palestine
SadaNews - Brazil condemned the Israeli colonial plan "E1", which would separate Jerusalem from the West Bank, emphasizing that the plan is "a geopolitical step that threatens the existence of the State of Palestine".
The Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a released statement that the colonial plan would undermine the unity of Palestinian territories on a larger scale.
The statement added: "This plan threatens to divide the West Bank into North and South, isolating East Jerusalem from the rest of these lands. Brazil considers this Israeli step a geopolitical move that threatens the existence of the State of Palestine and an act contrary to international law."
It pointed out that the International Court of Justice affirmed the illegality of Israel's continued presence in the occupied Palestinian territories.
It stated that the International Court of Justice concluded that Israel is obligated to immediately cease any new colonial activity, adding: "Brazil emphasizes the right of the Palestinian people to an independent sovereign state."
The statement called on Israel to refrain from taking unilateral steps that threaten the two-state solution and put the achievement of lasting peace in the region at risk.
