The Preparatory Committee for National Council Elections Holds Its Second Meeting in Ramallah
SadaNews - The Preparatory Committee for the Palestinian National Council elections held its second meeting today, Thursday, at the headquarters of the Palestinian Legislative Council in Ramallah, with the participation of several committee members abroad via video conference.
The meeting was opened by the chairperson of the committee, Rouhi Fattouh, who took the names of the attendees and ensured that the legal quorum was met, followed by the approval of the minutes of the first meeting.
As part of the committee's efforts to carry out the tasks assigned to it in accordance with President Mahmoud Abbas's decision on July 17, regarding the holding of elections for a new National Council after the end of the aggression waged by the occupation forces against the Gaza Strip, the members of the preparatory committee voted to form four specialized committees aimed at coordinating with relevant national institutions.
It was agreed to form a legal committee headed by Sakher Bseiso, which aims to review the elections law and present the recommendations of the committee regarding the law to the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization.
There was also an agreement to form a committee for expatriates and the diaspora, headed by Faisal Aranki, to coordinate work with the Expatriates Affairs Department, the Refugees Affairs Department, and relevant institutions concerning preparations for the National Council elections.
In this context, the members of the preparatory committee agreed to form an elections committee to coordinate efforts with the Central Elections Commission, chaired by Dalia Salama, as well as a committee for communication with civil society, headed by Bassam Salhi.
The committee members emphasized the necessity of taking serious steps and procedures to achieve the transition from the National Authority to the Palestinian state, and to ensure that the committee carries out what is necessary to prepare for free, fair, and democratic elections in which all components of the Palestinian people participate.
