"Histadrut" Donates Two Million Shekels to Families of Israeli Detainees Amid Controversy Over Strike
SadaNews Economy - Israeli media revealed today, Monday, that the Histadrut labor federation and the Federation of Israeli Employers have decided to donate two million shekels to the operations room for the families of Israeli detainees, as part of steps to support their cause, confirming the organization of a solidarity event next Sunday, while refraining from participating in the general strike called for by the families of the detainees.
In contrast, the Israeli Bar Association announced its joining the strike called "Israel Stops," allowing its employees to participate in protest activities without deducting their salaries or vacation days.
The head of the association, Dean Bachar, stated in a press release: "We call on the government to listen to the Chief of Staff and security leaders, and to immediately work on reaching a deal to release the detainees before it is too late," urging major law firms to follow the same path.
Families of detainees had called yesterday, Sunday, for a comprehensive strike on August 17, involving private companies, organizations, unions, and individuals, as an expression of solidarity and a demand for the release of the detainees.
These calls came after a meeting between representatives of the families of the detainees and the head of the Histadrut, Arnon Bar David, where the latter and the employers affirmed their support for the solidarity steps planned for next Sunday.
In a statement, the operations room for the families called on the public to participate, saying: "This is the moment to act, to take to the streets, and to support the families of the detainees and the soldiers, and to influence their future."
