Australia: We Will Recognize the State of Palestine Next September
SadaNews - The Australian Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, announced today, Monday, that his country will officially recognize the Palestinian state during the United Nations General Assembly meeting next September.
He explained in a press conference that "peace can only be temporary until the finalization of the Israeli and Palestinian states," reaffirming that Australia "will recognize the right of the Palestinian people to have their own state."
Albanese indicated that he received assurances from the Palestinian Authority that "Hamas will have no role in any future Palestinian state," adding that there is a favorable opportunity to work in this direction, and that Australia will cooperate with the international community to seize it.
The Cabinet met in Canberra earlier on Monday, where it approved recognition of the Palestinian state.
A new survey conducted in August showed increasing support among Australians for the official recognition of the Palestinian state.
