Arab League: Israel's Decision to Occupy Gaza is a Flagrant Aggression Against All Arab Countries
SadaNews - The council demanded "the international community, especially the United States, to pressure Israel, the occupying power, to stop its aggression and crimes against the Palestinian people, including genocide, starvation, and displacement, and to end its illegal occupation, as it is the state most capable of achieving this".
An emergency Arab meeting condemned on Sunday Israel's plan to occupy the Gaza Strip, affirming that this constitutes a "flagrant aggression against all Arab countries, their national security, and their political and economic interests, and is a threat to security, peace, and stability in the region".
This came in a final statement issued by the extraordinary meeting of the Arab League Council at the level of permanent representatives, which took place in Cairo, following a request from the State of Palestine to discuss ways to mobilize Arab action against Israel's plan to completely occupy the Gaza Strip.
The meeting called on the international community to pressure Israel to stop the genocide and starvation of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
The Arab League Council expressed its condemnation of "the decisions and plans of the Israeli occupation government to impose complete military control over the Gaza Strip, displace the Palestinian people, and the crimes of aggression, genocide, and ethnic cleansing being committed by Israel in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, including the city of Jerusalem".
The council affirmed that "these decisions and plans constitute a violation of international law and international charters, a flagrant aggression against all Arab countries and their national security and political and economic interests, and a threat to security, peace, and stability in the region".
It welcomed the international positions and statements that rejected the Israeli decision to occupy the Gaza Strip and the measures and policies of the occupation regarding the annexation of the West Bank.
It reiterated its support for the ongoing joint Egyptian-Qatari mediation efforts to stop the ceasefire and Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.
It also renewed "the call to protect the Palestinian people from genocide, displacement, and ethnic cleansing, and to prevent the liquidation of their central cause, in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy, international law, and relevant international and regional agreements".
The council called on "the international community, especially the United States, to pressure Israel, the occupying power, to stop its aggression and crimes against the Palestinian people, including genocide, starvation, and displacement, and to end its illegal occupation, as it is the state most capable of achieving this".
On Friday morning, the Israeli security cabinet "kabinett" approved a plan that begins with the occupation of the city of Gaza, through the displacement of its population of about one million to the south, then encircling the city and conducting incursion operations into residential areas.
This will be followed by a second phase involving the occupation of refugee camps in the middle of the Gaza Strip, which Israel has destroyed large parts of, as part of a continuous war supported by the U.S. since October 7, 2023.
