Trump to Meet Putin on the 15th of this Month in Alaska, USA

SadaNews - US President Donald Trump announced that the long-anticipated meeting between him and Russian President Vladimir Putin will take place next Friday in Alaska, as part of efforts for a diplomatic resolution to the war in Ukraine.

Trump confirmed in a post on his platform Truth Social that an agreement to end the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, which has been ongoing since late February 2022, is close to being reached.

In related news, RIA news agency quoted Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian president, stating that Russia and the United States are neighboring countries, so it is logical for the meeting between Putin and Trump to be held in Alaska.

Ushakov emphasized that the meeting will focus on discussing ways to achieve a long-term settlement for the crisis in Ukraine, adding that Moscow and Washington will actively and intensively work in the coming days to outline the details of the meeting in Alaska, describing it as a challenging process in his words.

Russian Proposal

In the same context, the Wall Street Journal reported that European and Ukrainian officials said that the Russian president presented a comprehensive proposal for a ceasefire in Ukraine to the Trump administration this week.

The proposal demanded that Kyiv make significant territorial concessions and seek international recognition of Russia's demands in exchange for stopping the fighting. Putin's demands also included that Kyiv cede the Donbas region without Russia committing to anything significant, except halting combat.

Sources stated that Putin informed US envoy Steve Witkoff of his agreement to a complete ceasefire if Ukraine agreed to withdraw its forces from the entire Donetsk region in the east of the country.

In this context, Axios reported that senior US and Ukrainian officials, along with European countries, are planning to meet next week in Britain. The meeting aims to attempt to arrive at common positions before the Trump-Putin meeting.

For his part, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham expressed confidence that President Trump would withdraw if Putin insisted on a bad deal.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Russia is still ignoring the deadline set for a ceasefire against his country.

Zelensky noted in a speech that his country has recently received significant international support, but Moscow continues to launch attacks on cities and villages in Ukraine.
