Expectations of the Israeli Cabinet Approving Gaza Occupation
SadaNews Translation - Hebrew television channels suggested this Wednesday night that the political-security cabinet, "the Cabinet," will approve a plan to occupy the Gaza Strip tomorrow.
According to the Hebrew channel Reshet Kan, as translated by SadaNews, the plan includes ground maneuvers in the central camps and the city of Gaza, which will last for about 5 months.
It was noted that this plan has been discussed between the political and military levels even before the "Gidon's Vehicles" operation, which was a compromise between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his then Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir.
It was mentioned that Zamir still maintains his opposition to the occupation of the strip, but he showed commitment in discussions with Netanyahu in recent days to any plan that is approved.
Israeli sources stated that one of the aims of approving the plan is to pressure Hamas to release the captives.
The channel reported an Israeli source saying that the chances of Hamas returning to the negotiation table until the plan is approved are nearly nonexistent.
According to the channel, intermediary countries are pressuring Israel through the United States not to take any measures to occupy the strip and are trying to bring both parties back to negotiations.
Meanwhile, Channel 12 reported that Israel will begin its operations in the city of Gaza and will ask its residents to evacuate in the coming weeks.
It indicated that U.S. President Donald Trump does not want to intervene in Israel's decisions regarding Gaza, but his administration rejects any annexation of any lands from Gaza.
It highlighted that Aryeh Deri, a member of the Cabinet, will try to convince Netanyahu not to occupy the Gaza Strip and to adhere to Zamir's plan.
