Second Call in a Week Between Putin and Netanyahu
SadaNews - A phone call took place today, Monday, between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
This is the second call between them within a week.
Neither the Kremlin nor Netanyahu's office disclosed any details of the conversation.
It seems that Russia is trying to play a role in easing Israeli interventions in Syria, especially in the south.
A Russian statement reaffirmed Moscow's consistent position calling for an exclusively peaceful resolution to the ongoing problems and conflicts in the region, according to the Kremlin's statement.
The statement continued: "Vladimir Putin specifically emphasized the importance of supporting the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Syria, and enhancing its internal political stability by taking into account the legitimate rights and interests of all ethnic and religious groups of the population."
The statement also indicated that "in light of the recent escalation in the Iranian-Israeli confrontation, the Russian side expressed its readiness to do everything possible to facilitate the finding of negotiated solutions regarding the Iranian nuclear program. The two leaders agreed to continue the dialogue on current issues on the international and bilateral agenda."
