President Receives Phone Call from Australian Prime Minister

SadaNews - President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas received a phone call this evening, Monday, from Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

During the call, the latest developments in the situation in the Palestinian territories were discussed.

The president reaffirmed the priority of achieving an immediate and permanent ceasefire, expediting the entry of humanitarian aid to stop the war of starvation, releasing hostages and prisoners, and allowing the State of Palestine to assume its full responsibilities in the Gaza Strip, along with a complete Israeli withdrawal, in addition to achieving comprehensive calm in the West Bank to stop settlement activities and annexation attempts, halting settler terrorism, releasing the withheld Palestinian funds, and preventing attacks on Islamic and Christian holy places.

The president praised the results achieved in the ministerial meeting of the international peace conference in New York, and the importance of building on this in the upcoming summit-level meeting on September 22 during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly next September, thanking the countries that recognized the State of Palestine and calling on those that have not yet done so to proceed with recognition.

The president thanked the Australian Prime Minister for his country’s political positions and its economic and humanitarian support, the latest of which was the humanitarian assistance provided to the Gaza Strip and to UNRWA, appreciating Australia’s commitment to a two-state solution and positive consideration towards recognizing the State of Palestine, emphasizing the important role Australia can play in achieving peace and stability in the region.

At the end of the call, an agreement was made to continue coordination and to meet between the president and the Australian Prime Minister on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, to work together to achieve peace and enhance bilateral relations between the State of Palestine and Australia at various levels.
