Darfur: 14 Sudanese Killed While Attempting to Escape from an Area Surrounded by Rapid Support Forces
SadaNews - A Sudanese rights organization stated today, Monday, that the Sudanese Rapid Support Forces killed at least 14 civilians while they attempted to flee from an area surrounded by them in Darfur, after more than 27 months of war between these rebel forces and the Sudanese army.
The "Emergency Lawyers" Association, which documents atrocities committed during the war, also reported that "dozens were injured and an unknown number of civilians were arrested" during the assault by the Rapid Support Forces on Saturday evening on the village of Karni, located northwest of the besieged city of El Fasher in the West Darfur region.
A field commander from the Rapid Support Forces alleged that those killed were individuals belonging to the army and armed movements, who intended to escape from the front lines inside El Fasher city.
Rapid Support Forces members also presented video footage of a man they claimed holds the rank of Major General in the joint force, who was captured while attempting to flee from El Fasher.
Previously, dozens of displaced individuals have faced severe violations at the hands of the Rapid Support Forces, including killing, looting, rape, and detention while trying to reach the town of Tallaga.
It is noteworthy that the Sudanese army regained control over the states of Al-Jazeera and Khartoum in January and March of last year and parts of the White Nile state, forcing the Rapid Support Forces to withdraw to Darfur and Kordofan.
