SadaNews - The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations announced the registration of 120 aftershocks in the past 24 hours, following an earthquake in the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia's Far East last Wednesday.
The ministry stated in its announcement today (Friday) that residents felt some of these tremors with a magnitude ranging from 2 to 5 degrees, according to Russian channel RT.
It added: "During the past 24 hours, 120 aftershocks were recorded with magnitudes ranging from 3.5 to 6.7 degrees. In residential areas, some were recorded with magnitudes between 2 and 5 degrees."
It advised tourists visiting the area to refrain from visiting the Avachinsky volcano due to the dangers of the earthquakes, and also advised the residents of Kamchatka and its visitors not to approach the active volcanoes: Bezymianny, Shiveluch, Klyuchevskoy, and Karimski.
One of the strong aftershocks was recorded on Friday in Kamchatka, 204 kilometers from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, with a magnitude of 5.6 degrees, according to the German news agency.
