US Senate fails to impose arms export ban on Israel
SadaNews - The US Senate failed to adopt two bills proposed by Senator Bernie Sanders aimed at halting US arms exports to Israel, amid the ongoing Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.
During his remarks in the Senate, Sanders described Israel's actions in Gaza as an "illegal and immoral genocide," pointing out that the indiscriminate Israeli bombardment has resulted in the destruction of more than 70% of the infrastructure in the region and the deaths of over 18,000 children.
Sanders stated that what is happening is "ethnic cleansing and the expulsion of a starving people from their land," calling for an ethical stance from the US Congress regarding these violations.
However, the bills did not receive sufficient support within the Senate, leading to their failure to pass, amid a sharp political divide regarding the position on Israel and the war on Gaza.
This failure sparked widespread criticism from human rights organizations and activists, who argued that continued US military support for Israel contributes to the exacerbation of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
On the other hand, some members of the Senate defended the ongoing military cooperation with Israel as part of the strategic alliance between the two countries.
