The Foreign Ministry Welcomes Malta's Announcement to Recognize the State of Palestine
SadaNews - The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomed the announcement made by the Prime Minister of Malta regarding his country's intention to officially recognize the Palestinian state, considering it in line with international law, United Nations resolutions, and the efforts aimed at ending the war of genocide, displacement, and annexation and achieving peace.
The Ministry reiterated its call for countries that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine to take the initiative to recognize it and choose the right side of history in order to protect the two-state solution.
It is noteworthy that Malta recognized in 1988 the right of the Palestinian people to have an independent state, but this was not a full and explicit recognition of the Palestinian state.
Earlier, Malta's Prime Minister Robert Abela announced that his country would recognize the State of Palestine.
Abela stated during a political event that this decision will be officially announced following the peace conference scheduled to take place on June 20 next.
He added: "We cannot close our eyes to this escalating humanitarian tragedy day by day," referring to the ongoing Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip.
