Water Authority: Discovery of More than 50 Illegal Connections on the Deir Sha'ar Line
SadaNews - The Water Authority reported that the extensive campaign to remove illegal connections, which began last Sunday in the Beit Ummar area in the north of Hebron on the Deir Sha'ar line - the main supply line for the governorate, revealed 15 illegal connections over an additional distance of nearly 2 kilometers from its course. Thus, the total number of illegal connections discovered over three days since the start of the campaign has exceeded 50.
The Director of the Water Authority's Southern Office, Issam Arman, stated that upon completing the removal of the illegal connections, Water Authority crews will study and monitor the amounts of water lost on the line to enhance the efficiency of the water management being pumped from it and ensure that the large amounts of loss resulting from the illegal connections are minimized.
The Water Authority indicated that dozens of villages in the Hebron governorate are suffering from thirst due to the theft of thousands of cups (units) of water daily for sale or irrigation purposes. More than 11,000 cubic meters are stolen daily from the Deir Sha'ar line alone, a quantity sufficient for 140,000 citizens.
